Gold Trim Agate Slice Coasters

I’ve been eyeing these agate coasters ever since I saw them on Anthropologie. Like, they are so gorgeous and a source of serious decor envy! But with that price tag and my balling-on-a-budget situation they would be a very reckless purchase. After doing multiple internet searches for other options I realize that they don’t really come cheap and I wasn’t prepared to drop almost $100 on coasters. So me being me, I DIYed them. They turned out so awesome and I’m proud to be the new owner of some super fly coasters. #yasqueen. Read on to learn how to make these for yourself.

I would say the most involved part of this DIY is finding agate slices in colors that you like and are also affordable. This Etsy shop has very beautiful and cheap agate slices, and for the price of $5 per coaster you can hack this Anthropologie item for under $30! After I sourced my coasters I just picked up my handy 22K gold leaf pen and got to work.

the how-to:

step two: allow to dry for about 20 minutes

step 3: stick the vinyl bumpers on the underside of the coaster. You’ll need 4 per coaster.Two-step DIY tutorial to make your own gold-trim coasters from agate slices for cheap! Perfect as a gift or to keep for yourself. || Essie Does Summer

And voilà! You’ll never have to rest a drink on a furniture surface ever again. As an optional step you can use a sealant or glaze to lock in the gold trim, but your coasters will still be fine without this.

Remember there are also silver leaf pens out there! If gold isn’t your thing you can always go with a silver trim, and your coasters will look equally as beautiful. It’s just a matter of preference.
